Help with using this template!

To use the card, first make sure the Drawing toolbox is open. To open Drawing, click on View, then select Toolbars, and check off Drawing. Next open your artwork page and your greeting card template. Minimize one by pressing the Minimize button in the upper right hand corner. Switch between the artwork and greeting card template by clicking on the desired page in the taskbar. (Lower part of the computer desktop) Begin work by deleting the colored rectangular boxes from the template. To do that, Right click on the colored box and select cut. (Do not delete the smaller text box!) Entering Text: Double click on a text box. Highlight the words in the box, then type the words that you want. (To Create an Extra Text Box, click on the blue T in the Drawing toolbar. Go to the work area, then using the combined crosshair/I beam, draw diagonally to create the text box. In the box a cursor will appear. Type where the cursor is located.) To Edit Text that was already created, double click on the textbox. Highlight the text inside the box. Then type right over the text. The new text will replace the old text. Next click outside the textbox work area. Then you can work in another area. To Copy and Paste a Picture: (Remember to use the taskbar buttons of the greeting and and artwork to switch between the pages.) Open your artwork page, then right click on a piece of artwork. Select copy or... go to Edit, then select copy. Then click on your greeting card template in the taskbar. Right click on an open area in the greeting card and select Paste... or choose Edit in the menu at the top and select Paste. When the arrow appears on the artwork image, drag it to the place where you want it to be displayed. To Flip a picture upside down: Right click on the picture. Right click a second time. Select Picture from the Menu. Select Picture from the Tab. Under Flip, place a check in the box next to Vertical. Creating a colored rectangular box or panel: Click on the blue rectangle in the Drawing toolbar. Drag the rectangle over the panel or work area. Don't worry if your text and picture are covered up. With the rectangle still highlighted, right click to bring up a menu. Select Area to choose the color of the rectangle. Choose line to pick a color for the line to surround your work area. Be sure to change the line width and color. 12 works well for a thick line. To uncover the panel or work area: The rectangle now covers the picture and text boxes. To change this, right click on a Panel or work area. The select Arrange, Send to Back.

Using this template

To successfully download this template, first click on the picture of the template. Then right-click on the picture that appears on the second page. Select Save as Target. After that save the file to your desktop. Double-clicking on the saved template will open OpenOffice and the template. You can add jpeg pictures to the card, change the text, change the background colors and the line colors. To change the line color, click on a panel. Then right-click and select Line. Under the Line Tab, you can change the color, width, and style of the line. (Make sure the Drawing Toolbox is open. It is found under View, Toolbox, Drawing.) The panels colors can be changed in a similar manner. To change the panel color, click on the panel. Then right-click and select Area. Choose from color or gradient. Then select the panel color. You may have to change the transparency depending on what effect you are trying to accomplish. Gradients, Hatching, and selected Bitmap panel backgrounds are available. There may be times when you need to select Arrange. If an item seems to be under a panel, click on the panel, then right-click and select Arrange. If you send the panel to the back, the items underneath will move to the front. Using Arrange may be neccessary if you attempt to use Fontworks. While the Fontworks will work, it is awkward at best. It is best to resize the Fontworks first and move it into the area that does not have a panel. From there you can type your message and move it into place. Then you can click on the panel. Next right-click and send the panel to the back. While this is somewhat complicated, with care, Fontworks will work. Under the panels are three light gray watermarks. Those are permanent postioning tools. If you remove the panels, the watermarks will remain allowing you to keep the positions for the panels. If you accidently erase a colored panel while inserting pictures, just create a new panel. Go to View, Toolbars, Drawing, then select the Rectangle from the toolbox. This template was created for use on an HP Deskjet 5550 color printer. It has also worked on an older Lexmark inkjet, HP 840C, and HP 4000 Laserjet. Hopefully, you will have no problem printing out your cards on your printer.
